Inline message translation lets users translate Teams mobile messages into the language they choose. This feature is now rolling out for Android; the iOS rollout is ongoing (MC216842, June 2020). This feature is also related to MC218683 (July 2020), which announced that the Teams inline message translation policy was changing to On by default.
This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 63226.
When this will happen
- The updated Android app will be released to the store in mid-September 2020.
- We anticipate that the rollout will be complete by mid-October.
How this affects your organization
When using the Teams mobile Android app, users who receive a message in another language can choose to translate that message into the language they have set in Settings > General > Translation.
To translate a message, press-and-hold the message to see the translation option.
What you need to do to prepare
For your end users to have the benefit of inline message translation, the feature must be enabled.
In MC218683 (July 2020), we announced that we were changing the default tenant policy setting for Teams inline message translation to On by default effective August 3.
- If you have disabled this for your tenant, your users will not have this feature.
- If you took no action, the feature should be enabled in your tenant.
